The INSTITUTE OF THE Brothers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SHJ) is an indigenous, religious Congregation, founded by Rev.Fr. Adrian Caussanel, S.J., the French Jesuit missionary,
in the year 1903 in Tamil Nadu, South India.
The Institute has gracefully completed more than one hundred and sixteen years of meritorious service and marching ahead in the service of humanity. The Institute was canonically erected on 20th June 1952 and was recognized as an Institute of Pontifical Right on 11th February, 1999.
At the heart of every Sacred Heart Brother, lies a preferential love for Christ and
option for the poor which is translated into action through Evangelization, Education and Social Action ministries.
With the Charism of “Good News to the Poor in the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus” the Institute works with the poor and the marginalized to change the human community into a sustainable and equitable social order.
